Hall Expansion 2006
I received a check the other day for a handy $92,000, and will get another in August. It was from the Diocese’s Church for Tomorrow Campaign. That means the gift came from …. us, from those who pledged in 2009, and are redeeming their pledges today. If you have fallen behind in your pledges, I encourage you to do the best you can. It is important to remember that the CFT Campaign was a one-time Diocese Campaign for capital improvements, while our upcoming Bishop’s Ministry Appeal is our share to help with yearly seminarian and other costs. Part of the CFT funds will help Holy Family and St. Stanislaus parishes, both in delicate financial circumstances. Your pledge is a beautiful act of stewardship toward neighbors who are in need. Your pledge also helps strengthen our own Building Fund, into which our share of Church for Tomorrow funds are deposited. Counting on these revenues, our Pastoral and Finance Councils decided to accomplish several building projects since 2008. First, we expanded our parking system, and I am happy to say our traffic woes have all but disappeared. Even when major events happen simultaneously in Church and Hall, our parking lots can now handle the load. Second, we installed a new cooling system in the church (the old system was 25 years old). I t handles even the hottest days at much lower energy costs. Third, we bought a property that went into foreclosure on the west edge of our property, for a future convent. Fourth, we added 5,000 square feet of storage space to the Hall. Remember when we had to stack chairs and tables in corners of the Hall and in PSR classrooms? No more! Finally, we paid off our radio station loan, which saves us around $40,000 a year in interest payments. Two of the three building projects came in under budget, while the parking project came in over budget, but it included longoverdue storm drain maintenance. These four expenditures from our building fund totaled $1.7 million. That brought our Building Fund down to $150,000, but your generous pledges are building it back up. Will we ever build that new church we’ve been saving for all these years? I hope we will, but some of these projects must be done first to provide space for that new structure. Other projects build up the community itself, a dynamic community of people who will build a new brick-and-mortar church when the time is right. I thank you for your gifts of treasure, which complement your gifts of time and talent. Your funds are indeed helping to “build a church,” not made by hands, but made  of living souls.
