The Seven Sacraments

When they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water.   (John 19:33-34)

Jesus Christ founded His Church and instituted Seven Sacraments.  In this section we provide the information you need to prepare and celebrate each of them.

Baptism / Confirmation / Eucharist

Penance (Confession) / Anointing of the Sick

Holy Orders / Matrimony

If you have questions about preparing for sacraments, call the parish office at 551-4973.

Baptism, the First Sacrament

Most Catholics are baptized while infants.  The Rite for Infant Baptism applies to children up to age 6.  Children age seven and above are considered adults by the Church and so go through a form of the Rite of Christian Initiation  for Adults as part of our Parish School of Religion.

Visit these pages for information on...

Baptism for Adults (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, RCIA)

Confirmation for Adults and Children

Most Catholics receive Confirmation in their teen years.  At St. Joseph's the ordinary time to receive this sacrament is 8th grade.  We also provide preparation for High School students.  All children and teens are prepared for Confirmation through our Parish School of Religion

Many Catholic adults never received this sacrament earlier in life. We offer preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation for Baptized Catholics who have already received First Holy Communion.

Some Catholics were baptized as babies but have never received Confirmation or First Holy Communion.  They are prepared for these sacraments through our RCIA process.

First Reconciliation and

First Holy Communion

for children
First Reconciliation (Penance) is ordinarily received after two full-years of catechesis (regularly in Second Grade).
First Holy Communion (Eucharist) is ordinarily received after another year of catechesis (regularly in Third Grade).

Please visit the Parish School of Religion, Sacramental Preparation page for more information.

Matrimony at St. Joseph's

We welcome you to consider being married at our church.  We also welcome those from other parishes to attend our Marriage Preparation classes.  Please visit our Marriage Preparation page.
