1873-1897
St. Therese, a French cloistered Carmelite nun, entered the Carmel at fifteen and remained there for nine years until her death at age twenty-four.  Yet she is the Patroness of the Missions and the youngest Doctor of the Church! In obedience to her superior, St. Therese wrote her autobiography, The Story of a Soul.  Here she detailed her “Little Way of Spiritual Childhood”, a simple way of holiness for all people; a gentle way of giving each moment, each event of life to God as an act of love.  St. Therese wrote, “I will spend my Heaven doing good upon the Earth…. After death, I will let fall a shower of roses.”  St. Therese is also known as “The Little Flower” and “St. Therese of the Child Jesus.”

In this window…

She stands on the Earth, symbolic of her role as Patroness of the Missions. She cradles the Cross of Jesus in the crook of one arm as roses fall from her hand descending to the earth. Her tender devotion to the Child Jesus is symbolized by the picture she holds in her other hand.  This image is modeled after a holy card St. Therese painted in honor of Our Lord.
