Adult Education

Picture
Isn't religious education just for kids?

God made us for love.

According to the Catholic Church Adult Education in the faith (also called catechesis) is the primary form of catechesis for God's People.  This may not have been your experience of the Church in the past and likely isn't your experience today.  Children go to catechism and once we have done this as children (perhaps even attending Catholic schools) we think that we are finished; that we have graduated.  However, God isn't through with you! or anyone else!

Adult Education is a not only a priority at St. Joseph's it is a way of life.
We invite you to embrace this way of life through one of the many and various ways offered in our parish family of families.

Formation for real life

In our parish adults are...

    * Formed in Catholic Stewardship
    * Prepared for Adult Confirmation if they have already received First Holy Communion
    * Prepared for their child's baptism
    * Prepared for Sacramental Marriage
    * Given the knowledge of God's plan for married love (Theology of the Body and Natural Family Planning)
    * Supported as parents through the School of Faith classes, Parent Life ministry (for parents of teens) and the Militia Immaculata Family Village
    * Formed in the teachings of the Bible and Catechism through various study groups and many other faith groups, events and events.

Upbringing Discussion Group

Want Parenting Support?  Parents discuss parenting.
 The Militia Immaculata “Family Village” welcomes you to come and study “Upbringing” by James B Stenson.   The group meets every 2nd Sunday 10:30am-11:45am at the Youth and Family Center.  Contact:  John & Malissa Souza  531-8126.

Synopsis of Upbringing: A Discussion Handbook for Parents of Young Children
Educator James Stenson says that there’s no magic formula that will turn you into a good parent, but that you can learn from other parents — and avoid many pitfalls by planning ahead for parental challenges that are sure to come.  Here he gives you a framework for discussing important issues about childrearing with other parents, plus a thought-provoking set of questions and observations for individual reading. Using this book, you’ll be able to develop effective strategies to help your children become the kind of adults you would like them to be.
