Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Picture
Join us in celebrating the annual 9-Day Feast Novena to our Mother of Perpetual Help. The private novena will be from June 19-27. Mass and Rosary will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 28th at 5:45pm with a procession on campus afterwards, followed by a potluck on the plaza.

The miraculous image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is painted on wood, and originated around the thirteenth century. Traditionally, the image is also known as “Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.” The icon depicts our Blessed Mother Mary holding the Child Jesus. The Archangels Michael and Gabriel, hovering in the upper corners, hold the instruments of the Passion. St. Michael holds the spear, the wine-soaked sponge, and the crown of thorns, and St. Gabriel holds the cross and the nails.)
Since 1866 the Redemptorists have spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the icon and title of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. The novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help is prayed weekly around the world. June 27 is Mary’s feast day under the title Our Mother of Perpetual Help, and every year we begin a special novena to her around that time.

Prayer to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Mother of Perpetual Help, your very name inspires confidence. We come before your holy picture in praise and thanksgiving to God, seeking your intercession with Jesus, your son, for all the needs of our lives today. We celebrate your holy motherhood as we proclaim Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer.
You answered when called to be mother of our Lord. Obtain for us the grace to be alive to our baptismal call and especially to embrace the Gospel of life and to respect all life on earth.
You wondered as your Son grew in wisdom, knowledge, and grace.
Intercede for us so that we may welcome the Word of God in our lives and be bearers of the good news to everyone.
You delighted as your Son healed the sick.
Intercede for our sick that they may receive good health and that they in their turn may be healers to others.
You enjoyed peace as your Son comforted the afflicted.
Intercede for all who suffer so that they may know that we carry their burdens with them and in this way we keep the law of Christ.
You rejoiced as your Son forgave sins.
Obtain for us the forgiveness of our sins and lead us to unbind others and set them free.
You suffered at the wounds your Son endured for our salvation.
Help us to bind up the broken-hearted and to give hope to the downtrodden.
You exulted in your Son’s resurrection.
Obtain for us the grace to persevere in His way all the days of our life and be granted a place in heaven.
You are the first of all the disciples and saints. We trust in your motherly love and care.
Obtain for us all the graces we need to fulfill God’s plan each day in our lives.
Amen.

Prayer for the perseverance

O Holy Virgin Mary, who, in order to inspire us with boundless confidence, has been pleased to take the name of Mother of Perpetual Help, we implore you to come to our aid always and everywhere; in our temptations, after our falls, in our difficulties, in all the miseries of life, and above all, at the hour of death. Give us, loving Mother, the desire, nay more, the habit always to have recourse to you, for we feel assured that if we invoke you with fidelity you will be faithful to come to our assistance. Obtain for us, then, this grace of graces, the grace to pray to you without ceasing, and with childlike confidence, that by virtue of you faithful prayer we may ensure your Perpetual Help and final perseverance, Bless us, O loving and ever helpful Mother, and pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Prayer of St. Alphonsus in Honor of the Blessed Virgin

Most Holy and Immaculate Virgin and my Mother Mary, to Thee who are the Mother of our Lord, the Queen of the world, the Advocate, the Hope, and the Refuge of sinners, I have recourse to thee. I who am the most miserable of all, I render Thee my most humble homage, O great Queen, mother and I thank Thee for all the graces thou has obtained for me until now, and in particular for having saved me from hell which I have so often deserves. I love Thee, O Most Amiable Lady; and for the love which I bear Thee, I promise to serve Thee always, and, to do all in my power to make others also love Thee. I place in Thee all my hopes, and I confide my salvation to Thy care. Accept me for Thy servant and receive me under Thy mantle, O Mother of Mercy. And since Thou art so powerful with God, deliver me from all temptations, or rather, obtain from me the strength to triumph over them until death. Of Thee I ask a perfect love for Jesus Christ; through Thee I hope to die a good death. O my Mother, by the love which Thou bearest to God, I beseech Thee to help me at all times but especially at the last moment of my life. Leave me not, I beseech Thee, until Thou seest me safe in heaven, blessing Thee and singing Thy mercies for all eternity. Amen.
So I hope; so may it be.

Memorare

Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it know that anyone who fled to thy protection implored Thy help or sought Thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto Thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother. To Thee I come, sinfull and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarante, despise not my petitions, but in Thy mercy hear and anser me. Amen.

We praise you, God the almighty Father, for having given to your people and to all of humankind the virgin, a great sign of hope for the coming of the One who will make you fully visible to us — the Emmanuel. We pray that daily we may live with Mary, hope in gratitude, and be ever vigilant in the readiness to respond with all our being to your calling and your gracious coming.
O Mary, whenever we remember you and call upon your name, Mother of Perpetual Help, we feel hope in us and long to know with you the Emmanuel — the experience of God’s nearness. We thank you for you fervent prayer, for your longing that was fulfilled in the coming of our Savior. Pray for us, that our lives may be a constant thanksgiving for his coming and becoming for many a sign of hope, of trust and an invitation to seek the Lord. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Most Holy and Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary, you are our Perpetual Help, or refuge and our hope. We come to you today. We thank God for all the graces you have obtained for us. To show our love we promise to serve you always and to do all in our power to lead others to you.

Mother of Perpetual Help, powerful with God, obtain for us these graces: The strength to triumph over temptation, a perfect love for Jesus Christ, and a holy death so that we will live with you and your son for all eternity. Amen.
Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, we are gathered here in need of your mercy and love. Please intercede with with your son and our Redeemer on our behalf. We come with or worries in need of your guidance. Through your Mother, Dear Lord, allow us to see with eyes of Faith, and to hear with understanding what you say to us. Lord Jesus Christ, at a word from your mother, you changed water into wine at Cana of Galilee. Listen now to your people gathered here to honor your Mother of Perpetual Help. Grant our petitions and accept our sincere thanks.

O Mother of Perpetual Help, we call upon your most powerful name. You are the safeguard of the living and the salvation of the dying. Your name will always be on our lips, especially in time of temptation, and at the hour of our death. Your name is confidence and power. Blessed Lady, help us whenever we call upon you. And show us that you are truly our Mother
O Mother of Perpetual Help, with the greatest confidence we come before your sacred picture, in order to invoke you aid. You have seen the wounds which Jesus has been pleased to receive for our sake; You have seen the Blood of your Son flowing for our salvation; You know how your son desires to apply to us the fruit of his redemption. Behold, we cast ourselves at your feet and pray to obtain for our souls the graces we stand so much in need of. O Mary most loving of all mothers, obtain for us from the heart of Jesus , the source of every good, these graces (here mention them silently).

O Mother of Perpetual Help, you desire salvation far more than we ourselves; Your Son has given you to us for our Mother; You have yourself chosen to be called Mother of Perpetual Help. We trust in your motherly love, Mother of Perpetual Help; for the love of your great servant Alphonsus, for the love of our souls, obtain for us the graces we ask from you. Amen.
O Mother of Perpetual Help, numerous clients continually surround your Holy Picture, all imploring your mercy. All bless you as the assured help of the miserable; All feel the benefit of your maternal protection. With confidence then, do we present ourselves before you in our misery. See, dear Mother, the many evils to which we are exposed; see how numerous our wants. Trials and sorrows often depress us; reverse of fortune and privations often grievous, bring misery into our homes; everywhere we meet the cross. Have pity on us and on our families; especially in this our necessity. (Here mention it silently). Help us, O loving Mother, in our distress; deliver us from all our ills; or if it be the will of God that We should suffer still longer, grant that we may endure all with love and patience. This grace we expect of you with confidence, because you are our Mother of Perpetual Help.
Amen.
With you, O Mary, we magnify the Lord. For he has done great things for you. You are Mary, full of grace; you are the Virgin who conceived and brought forth Emmanuel, God with us. You are the Mother whose soul was pierced by the sword of sorrow. Your are the woman whose child crushed the serpent's head. You are the Queen, clothed with sun in glory. O Queen, go to the King and entreat him for you people. Mary, ask you beloved Son, that as we go to our homes and our work this week, that he may send the Holy Spirit into our lives to: Open our ears — to hear what you are saying to us in the things that happen to us and in the people we meet. Open our eyes — to see the needs of the people around us. Open our hands — to do our work well, and to help when help is needed. Open our lips — to tell others the good news of Jesus, and to bring to everyone comfort and happiness. Open our minds — to discover ne truth about you, and the world. Open our hearts — to love you and our fellowmen as you loved us in Jesus.
Amen
Because we are miserable sinners, we kneel in supplication before you. In you, we place our hope. You are the Mother of mercy — have pity on us. You are called the refuge and the hope of sinners — be our refuge and our hope. Although we are sinners, we give ourselves to you; we promise to serve you forever. Stretch our your hand toward us. Assist us for the love of Jesus Christ. We bless and thank Almighty God for the mercy he has shown us, and we consider our confidence in you to be a pledge of our eternal salvation. We admit that in the past we failed to call on you for aid, and for this reason fell into sin. We know that with your help, we shall conquer sin and temptation. We know, moreover, that you help us if we but ask you. We fear, however, that when tempted we may neglect to call on you for help, and thus forfeit heaven. In all temptation, therefore, may we turn to you for aid. We ask you for this grace. We beg it with all the fervor of our souls.
Mary, help us, Mother of Perpetual Help, never allow us to lose our God.
Amen.
O Mother of Perpetual Help, receive us as your servants and grant us you motherly protection. We promise to imitate you virtues in the service of your Divine Son, our Redeemer. We promise to have recourse to you in all our spiritual and temporal necessities. We promise to love you always, and to do all in our power to make others love you also, so that through you all may come to know and love your Divine Son. Holy patron, St. Alphonsus, obtain for us the grace of ever invoking the assistance of our Mother of Perpetual Help.
Amen.
O Mother of Perpetual Help, you whose very name inspires confidence, help us, O Loving Mother. By the will of the eternal Father, Mary was made Christ’s loving associate in our redemption. How beautifully this is symbolized in our picture of Christ with his Mother of Perpetual Help. Taken into heaven, Mary continues, by her intercession to bring us Christ’s gift of eternal salvation. Confident, then, that our prayers made through Mary will most surely be heard, we humbly pray: that we may be victorious in the trying time of temptation. That we may quickly rise again should we have the misfortune to fall into sin. That we may ever love you, and serve you, and invoke your assistance. O Mother, to our last hour, to our last breath, do you ever help us O Loving Mother.
Amen.
